About me & dogs

My love for dogs started with the Golden Retriever. Our first do (a goldie, Chubbs) we had as a family pet he was he perfect choice for a young family however in his latter years he did not enjoy taking one step out of the front door.  Chubbs was full of love and he would let children cuddle him without a worry.  Ha! every night at 8.00 he would take hold of an arm (in his soft mouth) and gently pull you down to his level for a  play on the floor  in 1996 and sadly his  back legs gave way in 2007.  I remember the day well as we had to lift him  into the car and take him on his last journey to the vet I walked up to the door, my husband could not do it, I was able to coax him in - his last walk as painful for him but he did it.
The house was empty in fact it felt as though you could see him walk past the door.

SO the house needed another heart and along came Ziggy Stardust in 2008 just a normal pedigree goldie but the time had come that I started to investigated the breeding and backgrounds of gun dogs - the soft mouth - the retrieve - the love they return.  Zigg does not have much interest in the retrieve but it is buried very deep through his show line breed.  He has become my daughter's faithful friend.

As my investigations and searches regarding the trials and tests grew with working gun dogs in 2010 we decided the time is right to buy another dog, a Working Gun Dog and along came the Black Gun Dog - her name is Roxy Music she is from the Levengyhl www.levenghyllabradors.co.uk line, now I have the tools to venture further into the world of the gun dog!

Today 14th February 2012 I have created this blogg that  will be a diary of how far we are able to enter into this world of field work which seems to be like a closed shop! You can also follow us in Twitter you can see the ideas I am picking up along the way.
